Christmas Concert

On the 16th of December 2008 our Christmas concert took place in the school at 8 o'clock. In the main play "The Shepherd Boy", I was Samuel the, the shepherd. Samuel was trying to convince his father that he was ready to be a grown up shepherd. In the end he succeeded. It is a very interesting drama and we had great fun at rehearsals. On the night we also did a school concert. I enjoyed it very much.

Irish Dancing

For our Christmas concert we did Irish dancing. We were all in different groups. Sharon, Rebecca and Melissa did the three- hand reel, while Kristin, Róisín,and Kayleigh did a jig. The junior room did a German clap dance. We entertained our parents while they had tea and sandwiches. We had great fun!

Revenge

One of our plays in the concert was called "Revenge". It was about black people being treated badly by whites. But Cassie's family plan revenge. It took us a few days to learn. We also put actions to the story, and wore black masks on our faces. Once we practised it we did it for the school. I was 'Little Man', Sharon was Cassie, Róisín was Christopher John and Melissa was Big Mama. On the night everyone loved it.

The Band

Our band played at our Christmas concert. We played the drums, the accordion, the bodhrán, and the tin whistle. Sharon and Kristin played the accordion. P.J., John, Penny, David, Lauren, Melissa, Róisín, Kayleigh, Caitlin, Treasa, Meghan, Sarah, Noreen, Paddy, Patricia and Ellen plated the tin whistle. Gavin and Colm were on the drums and Sharon plated the flute. Our favourite tunes are:
Maggie in the Wood,
Rattlin Bog
Galway Bay
Marie's Wedding
Dawning of the Day.

Our band also played the traditional Christmas carols like:
Silent Night
Away in a Manger
Jingle Bells
The Drummer Boy

We were very good.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

During the school year my class read the story of "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" which is about life in the concentration camp at Auschwitz during World War 2. We also went to see the film in the cinema in Castlebar.

In class we wrote out the conversation that took place between the two boys, Bruno and Schmuel at the barbed wire fence.
Rebecca was Bruno, the son of the commandant in Hitler's army while Kristin was Schmuel, the little Jewish boy. It was very good but very sad. Some of our mams started to cry. Everybody said we were excellent.
